Hugh Soles

Hugh S. Soles, 77, of Saluda, died Sunday, September 13, 2015.  He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Gloucester and the former owner and operator of Hugh S. Soles Excavating, Inc., where he cleared land, built roads and ponds and also maintained four different county landfills at various times during his career.  Hugh enjoyed deer and rabbit hunting with his friends, liked going to beagle field trials and meeting his NASCAR buddies on Friday nights.  Most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Christine Soles and by his brother Roy. He is survived by his wife of fifty plus years, Alverda Hazzard Soles; daughters, Joyce A. Soles and Julie C. Soles; sister, Jeanette S. Holt; two nieces and two nephews.  A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Thursday, September 17, 2015 at Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Saluda.  Interment Olivet Baptist Church Cemetery, Shanghai.  The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to Olivet Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 25375 The Trail, Mattaponi, VA 23110 or Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 11408 Salem Church Road, Gloucester, VA 23061.
