J. Warren Callis, Sr. passed away on Friday, October 23, 2015 at the age of 87 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Mathews County on May 22, 1928 to the late J. Edgar Callis and Maggie (Wise) Callis. He is also preceded in death by his sisters, Mildred Tucker, Wanda Sadler and Hazel Smith. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Bonnie; his daughter, Maggie Howlett; a son, Warren Callis, Jr.; step-daughters, Meg (Allen) White and Jennifer (Raymond) Ewell. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Kimberly (Martin) Richardson, Ben (Laura) Howlett, Jonathan Howlett, Joseph Howlett and Hilary Callis; and step-grandchildren, Aaron White, Cassie White, Ryan Ewell and Jolie Ewell; five great-grandchildren Ian and Olivia Richardson, Chandler and Sammy Howlett and Brad West. He is also survived by sisters Nelda Sadler and Ruth Callis, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Warren was a farmer and a waterman all of his life. His Christian faith was an extremely vital part of his life. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 25, 2015 from 7:00-8:30 pm at Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews, Virginia. Funeral Services conducted by Pastor David McKnight will be held on Monday, October 26, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Gwynn's Island Church of the Nazarene. Interment will follow at H. C. Smither Cemetery, Hudgins, Virginia. We wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to Christy, Lisa, Jennifer, Sue, Dr. Shivers and the entire staff of Riverside-Walter Reed Hospice for their loving and compassionate care shown to Warren and to each of us, his family.
