James Cecil Akers “Marty”, 68, of Raleigh, NC, passed away on July 11, 2024. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, tinkering with various objects, gardening, singing and dancing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Wesley Akers Sr., and Nancy Luemma Sexton Akers; and a son-in-law, Juan Vega.
He is survived by his wife, Gayle Juanita Akers; daughters, Martinia Cheree Akers, Brenda Gayle Waily, and Heather Yvonne Drinkwater; sons, James Cecil Akers, Jr., and Joshua Even Akers; grandchildren, Kaleb Akers, Michael Waily III, Austin Akers, Angelina Akers, Aaron Jimenez, Jackson Dallin, Brandon Jimenez, Aiden Jimenez, Evan Akers, Jaylynn Akers, Carlos Vega, Abigail Vega, Jenesis Akers, Noah Waily, and Jonah Waily; and one great-grandchild on the way; one sister, Barbara Cecil; brothers, James Akers Jr. (Bubba), Ricky Akers, Donald Akers, and Richard Akers; various family members to include his son-in-law, Michael Waily II, married to Brenda; son-in-law, Francisco de La Cruz, married to Martinia; daughter-in-law, Crystal Akers, married to James, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be James Cecil Akers, Jr., Richie Akers Jr., Michael Waily II, Travis Parker, Ronnie Hemlick Jr., DJ Ambrose, and Ernest Ferrell, Jr.
The family will receive friends on Friday, July 19, 2024 from 6-8:00 p.m. at Faulkner Funeral Homes, Marks-Bristow Chapel, Tappahannock, Virginia. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, July 20th at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Davis-Stokes Cemetery, Dunnsville, Virginia.
