James Jarvis

James Edward “Jimmy” Jarvis, 66, a native of Mathews, VA went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, January 28, 2019. Jimmy graduated from Mathews High School in 1970 and went on to work in several fields, most notably in plumbing and heating with his beloved father. Jimmy’s greatest fulfillment in life was learning and teaching others about his Lord Jesus Christ. Over the years his passion led him to serve in several ministry roles including student ministries and later as an associate pastor. During that time he was blessed to pray for the sick, comfort those in difficult times, counsel those needing direction, and most importantly leading others to Christ.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his father Thomas E. “Tojo” Jarvis and mother Dorothy Grimstead Jarvis. He is survived by his sons James Jarvis (Julie), Tom Jarvis (Amy), David Jarvis; daughter Rebecca Mahoney (Tom); several grandchildren; his brother William “Billy” Jarvis; sisters Shirley Abrams, Christy Walker and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be held at Gwynn’s Island Cemetery on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at 11am.

Our family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the healthcare professionals of Riverside Walter Reed Hospital including Dr’s Sarah and Frank West and Dr. John Gretes. We would also like to extend our appreciation to the Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad for the extraordinary service they have provided to our family and who continue to provide compassionate service to the residents of Mathews County.
