James "Jim" Bright

James “Jim” Cameron Bright, age 69, of Warsaw, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on June 19, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Helen Bright of Virginia Beach, Virginia and his sister Sharon Mitchell, also of Virginia Beach, Virginia. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Marykay Bright. He is also survived by his brothers; Melvin Bright and Richard Bright; sister Yvonne Barnes; children Will Lumpkin (Kelly), Beckie Langford (Barry), Lorrie Taylor (Jason), and Jamie Loving (Michael); 13 grandchildren who knew him as “PaPa”; Stephen Loving (Masha), Nikki Loving, Brooke Taylor, William Highlander, Dale Taylor, Kate Highlander, Wyatt Langford, Molly Langford, Ryan Lumpkin, Hunter Taylor, Easton Bright, Jackson Loving, Owen Langford, and Holden Loving; and 1 great-grandchild George Scott.

Jim was born on December 8, 1950 in Norfolk, Virginia. He graduated from Maury High School in Norfolk, Virginia in 1968 and received a Bachelors of Science Degree in Political Science from Old Dominion University in 1972. While at ODU, he was also a member of the Theta Chi fraternity. As a young man, he also attained the rank of Eagle Scout through the Boy Scouts of America. Jim’s successful, professional career in Sales spanned approximately 57 years. He won multiple awards and was given numerous promotions along the way. Jim was well known for his strong work ethic, professionalism, and unwavering devotion to every job he ever held. Soon after moving to the area, he opened a sporting goods store and bait shop, “Tappahannock Sporting Goods”, in Tappahannock, Virginia for several years. Jim was very active in his community throughout his entire life. He was a coach and umpire for the Essex County Little League and President of the Essex County Jaycees. Jim was an extremely active and devoted member of the Tappahannock-Warsaw Moose Lodge for over 20 years. During his time with the Moose Lodge, Jim served as the Junior Governor (3 times), Governor (4 times), Junior Past Governor, and Chairman of the Moose Legion Committee (3 times). Under his leadership, the Tappahannock-Warsaw Moose Lodge received the “Premier Lodge Award” and Jim received the “Fellowship Degree of Honor” in 2016.

Jim was a faithful member of Ephesus Baptist Church in Dunnsville, Virginia for over 30 years and looked forward to weekly fellowship with his church family, especially when leading the church in “Welcome and Announcement” time. During his time at Ephesus, Jim served as Deacon multiple times, was active in the men’s ministry, and attended multiple men’s conferences.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 23rd from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of Ephesus Baptist Church; 287 Ephesus Church Road, Dunnsville, Virginia 22454. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 24th at 11:00, at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Ephesus Baptist Church, Dunnsville, Virginia. Faulkner Funeral Homes, Marks-Bristow Chapel, Tappahannock, is assisting the family with arrangements. Please be advised that current state-mandated guidelines will apply to all in attendance, social distancing and appropriate face covering. We sincerely appreciate your understanding.
