James Chester "Gus" Shelton Jr., 79, of Gloucester passed away Saturday April 16, 2022 at his home. He was born in Hampton, Va. and was the son of the late James Chester Shelton Sr. and Myrtle Catherine Fisher. Gus was preceded in death by his parents, wife Carolyn Shelton, brothers Robert William “Bobby” Shelton, and Hoy McKinley “Mac” Fitzgerald. He is survived by son Keith Shelton (Lisa); granddaughters Jennifer Rowe (Ashley), Jessica Shelton; great-grandsons Riley Shelton Rowe and Tanner Dean Rowe; sister Nancy Lerch (Rick), and Mary McGee; sisters-in-law Pat Minarik and Ruth Adams; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He started his career working for Colonial Stores and retired as a manager for Big Star Foods. After retiring he went to Lowe’s as a Pro Salesman for several years. He was the owner of Courthouse Antiques for 40 years, where he enjoyed getting to know his customers. He loved the casino, especially the slot machines. Friday night dinners with family and friends were the highlight of his week. He had a great love for his family and enjoyed spending time with his great-grandsons.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at Faulkner Funeral Homes, Bristow-Faulkner Chapel, Saluda where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Shackelfords Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue, PO Box 1417, Gloucester, VA 23061.
