James Wood

April 19, 1940 — November 23, 2018

James W. Wood 78, of Gloucester Va, passed away Friday Nov. 23, 2018. He was a retired City of Newport News Police Officer with 30 years of service, and a charter member of The Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 26. James was a member of Lower United Methodist Church, and a Lifetime-Member of Briar Swamp Hunt Club. He loved to play Bluegrass and County Music playing with the Dusty Roads Band and The Honeywind Bluegrass Boys.

Survived by his wife Billie Jean Wood; mother Mary Frances Wood; daughter Lisa Wood Rilee (Larry) ; uncle, Lewis Wood (Helen); sisters Wendy Kurnas (Terry), Judy Price(Gene); grandchildren Devin Rilee ( Cassie), Bryce Rilee (Jessica); great-grandchildren, Connor and Reid Rilee. James was also survived his lifelong best friend Charles Moffitt.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, November 26th at the Faulkner Funeral Homes, Bristow-Faulkner Chapel, Saluda. The Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Lower United Methodist Church Cemetery, Hartfield, Va.

The family wants to give special thanks to the Respite Group of Lower United Methodist Church, Dr. Provenzano and Joan Carter, caregiver. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to Lower United Methodist Church, 120 Lower Church Road, Hartfield, VA 23071.
