Jane Catherine (Kitty) Staton of Gloucester, Virginia passed away on April 11, 2015 after several years of ill health. Kitty was born in Richmond, Virginia on 12-27-1924. She moved briefly to Ohio then returned to Richmond. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School, attended Mary Washington College for 2 years before having to come home and care for her mother. She graduated from VCU College in 1973. She was employed as a school librarian in Dinwiddie Co. Kitty and Moe were active in Midlothian Chapter No. 85, Chester No. 121 and Oriental Chapter No. 30 Order of the Eastern Star. They traveled extensively, including 43 states and 3 Canadian Provinces. She enjoyed crafts, reading, collecting coins, Dickens Village, and puzzles. She also enjoyed doing needle work. They had a great 57 years together. She was predeceased by her parents, Myrtle and David Avery.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Herman H. "Moe" Staton, Jr.; three daughters, Duane Seller of Portsmouth, VA, Kathleen Madison and Sue Pryor of Chesterfield, VA; one son, Gregg Staton of Wilson, NC; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, her beloved grand dog "Phiney"; a half- sister, Penny Avery-Deutsch and a half brother, David Avery and a "special friend", Barbara Burtchett. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at noon in Westville Christian Church, 261 Main Street, Mathews, Virginia. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.
