Janis Bing Slaughter, affectionately called “MawMaw,” of Redart passed on to her heavenly home on Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2021, at the age of 70. Janis shared her love of music and God by serving as the organist at Clarksbury United Methodist Church, Deltaville, for the past 26 years. After retiring from Walmart in 2015, she worked part-time at Faulkner & Son Inc.
Everyone who knew Janis always had a kind word and a happy story to share about her. She had a tremendous amount of love for her church, her family, and all her friends. Janis enjoyed playing the organ, watching baseball and football, fishing, reading, gardening, visiting new places, and spending time with those closest to her. All her life, she kept in the company of bird dogs.
Janis is predeceased by her parents, John H. and Bettye George Bing; her husband Johnny Slaughter; and her brother Johnny Bing.
She is survived by her son, Vincent Slaughter (Michelle); grandchildren, Kyle Slaughter, Melany Slaughter, and Rodger Hudson; and great-grandchild Holley Slaughter. She is also survived by her siblings Paul Bing (Diane) and Peggy Farmer (Roy Lee).
The family will receive friends at Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster-Faulkner Chapel, Mathews, Virginia on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2021 from 6-8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Salem United Methodist Church, Diggs, Virginia on Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2021 at 11:00a.m. Interment will follow at Milford Cemetery, Moon, Virginia.
