Jean Hutchinson Rhines

Jean Dabney Hutchinson Rhines died surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, November 24, 2024 at the age of 93. The daughter of Elizabeth Henley Hutchinson and John Dabney Hutchinson, she was raised at Westwood farm in King & Queen County, Virginia. She is survived by her daughters Anne Dabney Elder (Steve) of Walkerton, Virginia, Frances Hudgins (Tim) of Mathews, Virginia and Virginia Rhines of Richmond, Virginia, her grandchildren Sarah Elder, John Elder (Gina), Mary Elder, Anna Hudgins (Brian), and Edwin Hudgins and many nieces and nephews. Jean was the widow of Stanley Warren Rhines whom she met on a blind date through her lifelong friend Betty “Mac” Geddes, and was predeceased by her 3 siblings, Betty Gwathmey, Mary Parrish and Jack Hutchinson.

Jean graduated from Lynchburg College in 1952, began her teaching career in Henrico, Virginia and taught off and on in the Essex County School System for many years. She was a member of Tappahannock Memorial United Methodist Church for over 60 years. Her gracious and gentle manner will be missed.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank the incredible staff at Commonwealth Senior Living at the West End Memory Care and the James River Home Health Hospice caregivers.

Visitation will be Friday, November 29 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Tappahannock Memorial United Methodist Church with the service immediately following at 2:00 p.m. at the church. Burial to follow at Smyrna Christian Church, 3655 Powcan Road, Bruington, Virginia with a reception following at The Vineyard at 4193 The Trail in Bruington, Virginia. Faulkner Funeral Home, Marks-Bristow Funeral Chapel in Tappahannock, Virginia is assisting the family with arrangements.
