Jeannie Hudgins Tatterson, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away on December 23, 2016. A Mathews County native, she attended Ferrum College and the University of Georgia.
Born February 28, 1948, Jeannie was the daughter of the late Raymond Shirley Hudgins and the late Virginia Boyd Hudgins of New Point. Jeannie is survived by her daughter, Kathryn Tatterson and son-in-law Sterling Hudgins; her grandson Sterling Ray Hudgins, Jr.; step-granddaughters, Madeline and Morgan Hudgins; her former husband William Tatterson; sister, Carolyn Hudgins Dinwiddie and brother-in-law Norman Dinwiddie, sister-in-law Margaret Sutton, brother-in-law John Borum Tatterson and his wife Ann Tatterson; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The heart and soul behind Tatterson Greenhouses, Jeannie was the first to roll up her sleeves, day in and day out, to grow her grand vision in reality. She worked hard, played hard and helped so many grow roots and thrive. Jeannie loved working with Kathryn in the greenhouses and even more, spending time with her grandson, Ray. Jeannie loved life and left it too soon. She leaves a legacy of joy, hard work and love.
The family will receive friends on January 7, 2017 from 11:00 am to 1:00 am at Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews, Virginia. Later that day, a celebration of her life will be held at Mathews Yacht Club at 5pm.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the Mathews Vol. Fire Dept., P.O. Box 1130, Mathews, Virginia 23109 or to the Hampton Arts Foundation, 125 East Mellen Street, Hampton, Virginia 23663 in support of the American Theatre.
