Joan Madsen

Joan B. Madsen, age 80, of Saluda passed away Saturday, April 26, 2014. She was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1933. Joan was predeceased by her father, John Wesley Farnell, a US Border and Customs agent and her mother, Bertha Clough Farnell. Prior to her marriage to Harry in 1961 she held positions as a bank teller, as an Executive Secretary with General Motors, and as a stewardess with Eastern Airlines. In addition to her husband Harry she is survived by her children, John Madsen, Karen Madsen Whitman and her husband Paul, Paul Madsen and his wife Stacey, as well as her grandchildren, Kelli Whitman Barrett, Kai Madsen, and Sophia and Charlotte Madsen. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Joan had a passion for genealogy and became a Certified Genealogical Record Searcher. Her other interests included travel, ceramics and needle point, and corresponding with friends all over the world. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday May 2, 2014 in Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home, Saluda. Interment will follow at Middlesex Memorial Cemetery, Urbanna. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
