John Junior Hankins, 73, of Jamaica, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2020, peacefully at home. A Vietnam War Veteran who served in the Army, he was very proud of his military background and serving our country.
John was also a former racing champion at the Virginia Motor Speedway in Jamaica, his nickname was John “The Hammer“ Hankins at the track. He loved boat rides, fishing and hunting, camping and riding around on his golf cart and spending time with his grandkids. “Daddy” or “Papa” to most, John never met a stranger and everyone was welcome in his home and would help anyone in need. Most days you would find John sitting at the table looking out the window or playing cards with the family. John loved going to the casino and gambling.
John was loved by his family more than words can express. He was a hero to his children and grandchildren and will be deeply missed by all.
He is survived by his loving wife of forty seven years, Margaret Ann Hankins; sons, James Slough (Kelly) of Jamaica, Va; John Hankins, Jr. of Jamaica, Va; daughters, Betty Damers of Chesterfield, Va; Lisa Burnett of Jamaica, Va; Julie Wilson (David) of Churchview, Va; Ann Morgan (Shaun) of Remlik, Va; Angela Roach (Billy) of Wingina, Va; and Linda Cable (Jimmy) of Jamaica, Va. He will also be missed by his brother, Raymond Hankins of Jamaica, Va; grandchildren, Justin, Dylan, Cameron Lee, Landon, Preston, Logan, John Thomas, David, James, Christopher, Phillip, Heather, Sarah, Savon, Ashley, Jacob, Abbigayle, Steven, Tiffany, Cameron Shaun, Kendria, Trisha and several great grandchildren, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and friends that were family. He was preceded in death by his father, John Thomas Hankins; mother, Aileen Wright; brothers, Alfred Carter, Floyd Hankins and sister, Effie Mae Racette.
A memorial service with military honors inviting all family and friends will be held on Saturday, June 27th at 3:00p.m. in Faulkner Funeral Homes, Bristow-Faulkner Chapel, Saluda.
