John R. Henry, 90, of Newport News, Virginia, died March 15, 2013. Born in Aspinwall, he lived in the Apollo area most of his life. A graduate of Apollo High School, he also attended Penn State-Clarion and drafting school. John was a design draftsman for U.S. Steel at the Monroeville Research Center until his retirement in 1982. He was also a veteran of World War II.
John was a member of Apollo United Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed bowling and golfing.
John was preceded in death by his parents, S. Roy and Ethel Rankin Henry, and by his siblings; Sam, William, Adelaide, and Genevieve.
He is survived by his wife, Betty McDevitt Henry, to whom he was married for 64 years. He is also survived by his daughter, Patty Patton (David); grandchildren Benjamin Patton and Sarah Anderson (Chris); and many nieces and nephews and their families.
There will be a memorial service for John at Apollo United Presbyterian Church at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, with a visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M.
The family requests that any memorial donations be made to Apollo United Presbyterian Church.
