John Lankford

John Gilbert Lankford, 91, of Howertons, passed away peacefully at home on October 9, 2023.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Phyllis; a son, Kevin (Stephanie); two daughters, Karen Thomas (Jim) and Kristi Cunningham (Eric); two grandsons, Justin and Jason; two brothers, Thomas (Vera) and Deane (Arlene) and one sister, Joyce Davis (Calvin).

John was a United States Army Veteran who served his country in the Korean War. He retired after 33 years from Southern States Cooperative where he supported farmers as the Manager of the Tappahannock store.

He and Phyllis built their home in Howertons where they have resided since December of 1959 and are members of Howertons Baptist Church. They raised their family and grew in the community while he pursued his loves of woodworking, fishing, and gardening. He worked hard and family was the center of everything he did.

The family will receive friends on October 12, 2023 from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at Howertons Baptist Church. Services will follow at 11:00 A.M. with interment in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Howertons Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 3508 Howerton Rd., Dunnsville, VA 22454.
