John J. “Stumpy” Schools, 80, of Tappahannock passed away on Tuesday November 19, 2019. He was an employee of Emmerson and Kathy Hughes, Holiday Barn Pet Resorts and a devoted part time assistant at Marks-Bristow Funeral Home for 25 years. He was a life member of the Tappahannock Volunteer Fire Department and a member of Upper Essex Baptist Church. Stumpy was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Lorraine Rice Schools.
Stumpy is survived by his two daughters, Betty Rice Chatham (Larry) of Tappahannock and Stephanie Robinson (Jerry) of Dunnsville; sister, Elsie Baldwin of Tappahannock; brother-in-law Stanley Rice of Aldie; four grandchildren, Ed Brown, IV (Tammy), Tanya Douglas (Jeremy), Jonathan Brown (Christa) and Jessica Robinson; six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Friday, November 22, 2019 in the Faulkner Funeral Homes, Marks-Bristow Chapel, Tappahannock with the Reverend S. Roy Foster and Reverend John C. Yeatts officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. Friday until service time at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Upper Essex Baptist Church Cemetery.
