John R. Tignor, 92, of Caret, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family. John was the son of the late Harry and Viola Tignor. He spent most of his life in the timber business, and enjoyed countless hours in the woods. He often times could be found on his tractor in his garden or farming his land. He was a longtime member of Upper Essex Baptist Church. He was an avid hunter, and passed this tradition down to his son, grandson, and great-grandkids. He served as president of Forrest Hunt Club for many years, and one of his biggest passions was horses. He was active in Harness Racing, and raised many successful horses. He was soft spoken, kind and genuine. He had a smile that would light up a room. He took great pride in his family, and cherished them being close by.
John is survived by his devoted wife of 23 years, Margaret L. Tignor; one son, Elwood A. Tignor (Debbie); grandchildren, Angie T. Hodges (Bryon) and Jamie M. Tignor (Shannon); great-grandchildren, Owen, Ella, Mia, and Cooper; brother, George E. Tignor (Joyce); stepsons, R. Wayne Parker (Joanne), and William L. Parker (Anne), and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Martha Emily Tignor; son John E. Tignor, and several brothers and sisters. John was blessed with several angels on earth who took great care of him. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Riverside Hospice.
