Jonna Ingrid Olsen, 97, of North, passed away Wednesday, April 5th at Mathews Convalescent Center.
Born in Copenhagen, Denmark, Jonna lived in the United States since 1953. She worked as the head cafeteria chef for Lenape Valley Regional High School in New Jersey and retired at the age of 70. She moved to Mathews, Virginia in 2005. Jonna lived independently until recently when she moved first to Heron Cove in Gloucester and then to Mathews Convalescent Center.
Family was her greatest joy and she traveled back to Denmark and New Jersey often to visit and stay with her family. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, Sunday papers, bird watching, her garden of flowers and being social with extended family who knew her as Little Gram, Grammie O and Grandma Jonna.
Jonna was proceeded in death by her husband of 62 years, Gunnar Olsen and her son, Martin Olsen. She is survived by her daughters, Norma Turner (Carl) and Vicky Olsen (Doug), her sons, Allan Olsen (Mindy) and Raymon Olsen (Susan); her daughter-in-law Patricia Olsen and her brother-in-law Bent Larsen. She was also survived by 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The family received friends and loved ones at the Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home Sunday, April 9th 2017 at 2 pm, a service then followed at 3 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Meals on Wheels or Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters.
