Joseph Merritt Barlow, Jr., of Deltaville, Virginia, passed away on June 3, 2023, at the age of 85. He was born on April 20, 1938, in Richmond, VA., to the late Joseph Merritt Barlow and Mary Byrd Bledsoe Barlow. Joe grew up in Varina and graduated with the Class of 1956 from Varina High School.
Joe began his working career in the printing industry but would eventually retire from Valley Crane & Rigging (The Valley Group) as Vice President of Richmond Operations. Although Joe had been coming to Deltaville for years, he became a permanent resident upon retirement. Joe had many interests, including restoring boats and fishing in Deltaville, Nags Head, N.C., and Virginia Beach. He was also an excellent cook. Oyster roasts were an annual event where he always served his “Famous” clam chowder. Fish fries and barbecues were also regular events. Joe also had a love of Walt Disney World, which was a destination for many family trips.
Joe is survived by his wife Sheryl of Deltaville, VA; son, Hunter of Mechanicsville, VA.; brother, Jack (Bonnie) of Waynesboro, VA and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
