Joseph Nolte

Joseph Henry Nolte, Jr.

Joseph Nolte passed away at his home in Saluda, VA on January 25th, 2021 at the age of 87 with his family by his side. He is survived by his wife, JoAnn of 63 1/2 years. He was preceded in death by his son, Daniel J. Nolte of Maui, Hawaii and has three daughters, Fawn and her husband Ben Cordero and their two children; Valosi Nolte all of Maui, Hawaii; and Jala Nolte of Australia. Joseph is also survived by two daughters, Sharon Brodt and her husband Scott of Kitty Hawk, NC and her son Matthew McMurtrie of Raleigh, NC; and Mary Penn Nolte who resides in the Virginia Home in Richmond, VA, and his son Tim Nolte of Powell’s Point, NC and his daughter Alexandra Nolte and her mother, Claire Nolte, of Southern Shores, NC. He is also survived by his sister, Sallie Nolte of Richmond, VA.

Joseph graduated from Benedictine High School in 1953 and the University of Richmond in 1957 where he played varsity baseball and was a member of the ROTC. He served in the Army for six months and in the Reserves for seven years where he obtained the rank of Captain.

In the 1970’s, after attending Universities around the country, Joseph received his MAI designation (Member of the American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers). Joseph and his wife JoAnn then formed Nolte Real Estate & Appraisal Company in Virginia Beach. He was past president of the Hampton Roads Chapter of the AIREA and was a member of the Exchange Club of Virginia Beach.

Joseph and JoAnn retired in 1992 to their farm in Mathews, VA and then moved in 2007 to Windward Watch in Saluda, VA.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial gifts be made to the Virginia Home Financial Department, 1101 Hampton Street, Richmond, VA 23220. A funeral Mass will be held at a later date at the Church of the Visitation in Middlesex, VA.
