Judith Mallory

December 31, 1969 — December 1, 2016

Judith Douglas Mayo Mallory, age 90, of Midlothian and Locust Hill, Va., died unexpectedly on Thursday, December 1, 2016. Judy was born in Richmond, Va., the daughter of William Richard Mayo and Miriam Douglas Mayo. Judy was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband of 67 years, Morris Kent Mallory Sr. She is survived by her four children, Debarah Mallory Morgan, Miriam Mallory Moenich (Stephan), Morris Kent Mallory Jr. (Elaine) and William Douglas Mallory; four grandchildren, Kelby Mallory Morgan (Jennifer), Dr. Molly Hundley Morgan (Kevin Nanna), Courtney Moenich Brooks (Jay) and Stephan Harrison Moenich (Carly); and five great-grandchildren. Judy grew up in the Ginter Park area of Richmond and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1943. Because of her adventurous nature, gifted talent and love of art, she moved to New York City after graduation to attend the prestigious Jamesine Franklin School of Professional Arts, where she studied art and fashion design. Judy later moved back to Richmond, married Kent and set up house on the campus of Randolph-Macon College. Throughout her life, Judy had a passion for art that never wavered. She was an extremely talented artist who continually took classes at RPI, VCU and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, where she was enrolled at the time of her death. Her passion for art was shared with her passion for dance. She and a friend established the Ransone-Mallory School of Dance, where they taught ballet to hundreds of students through the years. Judy was a vivacious woman who never slowed down or showed her true age. She was constantly on the go, whether it was shopping or going back and forth to her house on the Rappahannock River, where she enjoyed fishing, picking crabs, swimming with her family and working on her paintings. She loved to travel and to learn, being inspired by all that was new in her surroundings. Her youthful spirit and eagerness to live life to the fullest never diminished. She will always be remembered as a strong, loyal and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who cherished her family above all things. Her family is eternally grateful for the guidance, love and unwavering support she provided for so many joyous years. Judy will be missed beyond measure. A funeral service will be held at the Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home located at 15 C.F. Edwards Ln., Saluda, Va. 23149, at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 10. Burial will follow in the Harmony Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, located at 7722 General Puller Highway, Topping, Va. 23169.
