June Taylor Byrd

March 11, 1940 — January 3, 2025

June Taylor Byrd, 84, joined her Savior and her beloved husband on Friday, January 3, 2025, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. As a pastor’s daughter, she grew up in Middlesex County and Crisfield, Maryland where she graduated from high school. There she met Jon D. Byrd and they were married shortly after graduating. His work brought them to Mathews and Gloucester counties where they raised five children. After retirement, they settled in Middlesex County.

June was very involved with her church, particularly the food ministry, and served as a chaplain at the Gloucester jail. An avid reader and shopper, her greatest joy was spending time with her husband and keeping up with a growing family.

June was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. and Mrs. Bland Taylor and her husband of 58 years, Jon D. Byrd. June is survived by her five children: Steve (Beth), Brian (Laurel), Dee (Ted), Donna (Mike), and Barbie (Mark), fifteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Herons Cove and Riverside Hospice for the loving and dignified care that she received during her stay. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 18th at 2 p.m. in Faulkner Funeral Home, Foster-Faulkner Chapel, Mathews, VA.
