On Monday October 21 Katherine Christine Goulait (Malik) fell asleep at home. Kathy now rests without pain. She was a lady that you would most likely remember if you ever met her. She was born in Rockville Center, NY in 1946. She lived primarily in Waterbury, CN.
After high school, she came to the DC area until she was a “come here” to the area. Getting here after graduation from George Washington University in 1969, she spent her time in the earlier working world in hospital administration and insurance sales. Her final work was Prostate Cancer advocacy -- not only for the men that were affected by the disease, but also working with groups that were dedicated to making things better for those suffering from the disease. Kathy also worked with various governmental departments and testified before the House of Representatives. Kathy was the daughter of Jon Malik and Katherine Malik. She was married first to Michael Meade and then to William Siebert (who passed from prostate cancer and put Kathy on her crusade). She is survived by John J. Goulait her husband, two brothers Jon Malik and Christopher Malik, both of Connecticut, and two sons, Christopher and Jon Meade both living in the NOVA area.
Kathy always held family as most cherished. She was a reader, a chef caliber cook, she loved her flowers and welcomed all that knew her into a kitchen filled with great food, good conversation and a comfortable feeling. I can attest to this from the years I had with her. I had a very good friend who spent time with us quite often traveling from New York to Florida and his words make me feel better and explain Kathy’s kitchen more than I can. “So happy to have met and spent time with Kathy when you and I reconnected. Had some fun conversations and meals in HER kitchen. Care and love is a keystone to yours and her story…” The kitchen was the center of life.
A memorial will take place at a time in the future, until then my kitchen is open for a cup of coffee and conversation, but mostly for memories.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to the Virginia Prostate Cancer Coalition Fund which Kathy established and was a passion of hers. Payable to MCV Foundation, 1228 E. Broad Street P.O. Box 980234
