Kevin Kean

March 20, 1943 — October 3, 2020

Kevin Kean, age 77, of Tappahannock, died October 3rd, 2020, with his loving wife, Diane, by his side. He was born in 1943 to Leslie and Bertha Kean in Milton, Massachusetts. He married his beloved wife, Diane, in 1967, in Harvard, IL. He served in the U.S. Air Force and earned a degree in electrical engineering.

He retired as a Senior Engineer with Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC). Previously he worked for PCI Aviation and Comptek, for which he opened an office in New Jersey.

A member of the Knights of Columbus, he was a Grand Knight in King George. He was an active volunteer with his parish of St. Timothy's Catholic Church in Tappahannock.

In 2006, Kevin started the local chapter of the American Wine Society, "Northern Neck Uncorked", and acted as the chapter Chair and Treasurer, as well as a mentor for many years.

He was an avid woodworker, crafting unique and artistic creations, foiling many a squirrel, and lending his time and woodworking talent to the local theater group. He and Diane enjoyed traveling near and far, including such locales as New Zealand, Alaska, and Antarctica. He was a true barbecue aficionado and his use of a converted propane tank to cook for the whole neighborhood was legendary. Kevin had a great love and knowledge of the water, boating, and all things nautical.

Kevin was preceded in death by his sister Carol and his parents Leslie and Bertha.

He is survived by his beloved wife Diane, and his loving son Brion and daughter-in-law Laura, and will be deeply missed by his dear family and friends.

Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Timothy Catholic Church, 413 St. Timothy Lane, Tappahannock, VA 22560. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
