Lavonne Marie Pearce, 82, of Topping passed away peacefully Friday, February 21, 2020.
Lavonne was born in Alta Vista, Iowa, on April 20, 1937. She spent her youth on the family farm in New Hampton, Iowa, and attended New Hampton High School. After her graduation she worked briefly for social services before working for Counterintelligence with Civil Services. She lived in Germany and Rome and was able to travel extensively throughout the Middle East.
After her marriage to Paul and becoming a military wife, they lived primarily in New Jersey. After Paul’s retirement they settled in Middlesex County on Meachims Creek. Lavonne worked as Postmaster Relief for Topping Post Office for 20 years before her retirement in 1999. Before going to work for the post office she worked for several years as a typist for the Southside Sentinel in Urbanna. She was very active in her church and served many roles including being the first secretary for The Church of the Visitation. Lavonne had a wonderful full life.
She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Joseph Paul Pearce; her children, Victor (Sam) Pearce of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Tammie (Wayne) Hogge of Hartfield; grandchildren, Joseph, Brandon, Ryan, Heather, Daniel and Clayton; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clayton and Margaret Webb; and brothers, William and Thomas Webb.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 29, at The Church of Visitation at Topping at 11 a.m. Burial will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
