Leonard Wiley Levis, Sr. passed away August 19, 2017. He was born in 1923 at Quantico, VA to Harold Stuart “Jim” Levis and Zoe Louise Newton Levis. He was predeceased by his wife, Lucille Harrow Levis, his brother Dan Levis and sister Betty L. Hefner. He is survived by his wife, Thelma Levis and her son Herbert Lewis, Jr., grandchildren Stacy McKinney and Herbert Lewis, III, and three great grandchildren, Madisen McKinney, Gavin Wheeler and Herbert Lewis, IV. He is also survived by his children: Ellen Schiavone (Andrew) of Williamsburg, VA and Wiley Levis, Jr. of West Point, VA; granddaughter Ruth West of Barhamsville, VA and two great-grandsons, Braydon and Trevor West. After graduating from high school in Knox, PA, he joined the Marine Corps and proudly served in the South Pacific Theatre during World War II. Leonard was employed by the Chesapeake Corporation for almost 38 years. During that time he became certified to install and repair appliances and furnaces, and he taught Hunter Safety and Personal Protection gun classes. He and Lucille purchased a small home in Eltham to which he added two additional bedrooms and later a living room, den and half bath. His hobbies included fresh and salt-water fishing, boating, creating hooked rug wall hangings and building and flying model airplanes. He made himself available to assist many of his neighbors and extended family, building and repairing things around their homes. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church in West Point and later at Olivet Baptist Church in King & Queen County. He traveled to Mexico City with a Methodist Group to start a home for the aged and later went to Tanzania, East Africa, to help build two churches. After Lucille’s death in 1984, he met and subsequently married Thelma Lewis and resided in her home in King & Queen County until he moved into Riverside Convalescent Center in West Point. There will be a graveside service in Zoar Baptist Church Cemetery, Deltaville, VA on Friday, August 25, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. with visitation following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation in his memory to your favorite charity. Faulkner Funeral Homes, Bristow-Faulkner Chapel, Saluda, is assisting the family.
