Lewis Bristow

HARTFIELD

Lewis (Lew) Addison Bristow, age 89, of Hartfield, Virginia, died at his home on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 with his family by his side. Born in Gloucester County, September 6, 1922, Bristow re-located to Newport News, Virginia in preparation for the Apprentice School. After completing the required course load at the Apprentice School, he then joined the United States Navy. Stationed in ports from the Philippines to Hawaii, he was proud to serve as a seaman for his country. Returning to Newport News after WWII, Bristow worked for the Southern Color Print Corporation and the Daily Press/Times Herald until his retirement at age 65. Returning to Middlesex County, Bristow toiled the soil, tended bees, raised cattle and enjoyed watching the fruits of his labors through the wonders of nature. He often attended, spoke at, and contributed articles to various organizations concerning his love for growing, planting and harvesting. A long time member of Calvary Baptist Church, Newport News, his later years returned him to Harmony Grove Baptist Church, Hartfield, Virginia. Bristow was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Bonewell Bristow; parents, Andrew Schuyler and Anna Cross Bristow; sisters, Anna Marie Bristow and Martha Ann Brody; brother, Andrew Schuyler Bristow. He is survived by daughters Deborah Bristow Justice, Donna Gaye Bristow and son, Daniel Lewis Bristow; three grandchildren and a host of nephews, great nephews and great nieces, as well as the great, great generation coming along. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Saluda. Interment Harmony Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Topping, Virginia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday. The family wishes to thank all who have been true to Lew during his last months through visitation, cards and phone calls, which all meant so much to him. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you plant something to remind you of Lew, as he truly loved to watch things grow.
