Lillian (Diddy) Hudgins was born March 5, 1924 to Martha Gertrude & Vernon Christopher Hudgins. The eighth child of ten, she was predeceased by her parents; her siblings Christine V. Hudgins, Hilda Snow, William L. Hudgins, V. C. Hudgins, Jr. (Jim Jim), Cathryn Lewis, Frances McPherson, Elton Hudgins, Dick Hudgins and June Hudgins; and a niece Carolyn "Mac" Gregory. Although Diddy never married or had children of her own, she is survived by her "dumplings" nieces and nephews; Joanna Mullis Nix, Charles M. Snow, Bobby Guy Lewis, Elton Hudgins, Jr., Beverly Hudgins, Betsy Ripley, Janice Phillips, Marti Bowen, Susan Harris, Christi Lewis, Mary Hudgins, Stephanie Thompson, Ricky Hudgins and many grand nieces and nephews. Diddy attended New Point School and graduated from Mathews High School. She worked at the Mathews Cleaners and Virginia Institute of Marine Science at Gloucester Point where she retired as a key punch card operator. The family would like to thank the staff at Mathews Convalescent Center, the Hospice Staff for their loving care, and her "dumplings" for their devotion to her – especially Janice Phillips who was her guardian angel here on earth. Diddy was always gracious and kind and possessed a sweet sense of humor. She was a treasure. A memorial Service is planned for Saturday, March 11th. at 11:00 am at Beulah United Methodist Church, 7505 New Point Comfort Hwy., New Point, VA 23125. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the church. Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews, VA is assisting the family.
