Lucy Miller

Lucy Agnes Brown Miller of Syringa, passed away Monday, February 25, 2013 at the age of 103.  She was born at the Brown Family homeplace, Brown’s Alley, Urbanna, VA on May 18, 1909 to Joseph Henry Brown and Lucy Emily Creswell Brown, the tenth of eleven children.  She married Archie Lee Miller on March 13, 1933 in the parsonage of Rev. B. F. Robinson, Pastor of Harmony Grove Baptist Church.  She was a life long resident of Middlesex County and a member of Urbanna Baptist Church.  In 2009 at 100 years old, she was honored to serve as the Honorary Grand Marshall of the 52nd celebration of the Urbanna Oyster Festival.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her 4 brothers and 6 sisters, her husband Archie Lee Miller and her son A. L. Miller, Jr.  She is survived by three daughters, Shirley M. Apsley of Urbanna, Catherine M. Ferree of Syringa and Ann M. Waters (Rudy) of Gloucester; six grandchildren, Albert Ferree (Sandy) of Florida, Debbie F. Anderson (Andy) of Syringa, Pam F. Major (Matt) of Remlik, Catherine Ann F. Miller (Doug) of Fairfax, Billy Waters (Cathe’) of Virginia Beach, and Bobby Waters (Nicole) of Williamsburg, 12 great-grandchildren, Lorie, Gena, Bradley, Daniel, Jessica, Ryan (Brandy), Robby, Chris, Camryn, Drew, Lorelei, and Eliana; great great-grandson, David; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Harmony Grove Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to service.  Arrangements by Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Saluda.
