Lucy Anne Robertson Norton, beloved wife of Wilbert Henry ‘Hank’ Norton of Deltaville, Virginia, died at home on February 1, 2017. Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd Archer Robertson and Lucy Anne Robertson, as well as her brothers, Floyd and Tom Robertson, and her sister, Sally Robertson Vaughan. Lucy was born on August 12, 1931 in Lynchburg, Virginia. She graduated from E.C. Glass High school and from Brenau University in Georgia where she studied Education. She taught elementary school in Lynchburg, Virginia prior to marrying Hank on December 21, 1961 and returned to the classroom to teach in Franklin County, Virginia when her children were older. Lucy was a self-sufficient football coach’s wife, a tomboy, and a champion of the mischievous. She had the patience and swagger to repair tractors and well pumps, and to bail out boats in the midst of hurricanes. She loved bridge, solitaire, crossword puzzles, murder mysteries, and drinking countless pots of coffee with her buddy, Marlene Henley Mathews. Lucy’s greatest joy was derived from her family. She is survived by her husband, Hank, her daughter Pattie Norton Gunter (husband David) of Great Falls, Virginia, her son Will Norton (wife Jodie) of Floyd, Virginia, and her son Jack Norton (wife Kristi) of Ferrum. She is survived by her 10 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter, and numbers nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Philippi Christian Church in Deltaville, Virginia with a visitation at 10 a.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lucy’s name to Ferrum College or to Philippi Christian Church in Deltaville, Virginia.
