Marjorie Mercer Cox, 90, of Deltaville, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2014 after a long illness.
She is survived by her daughter, Diane Cox Basheer (B. William) of McLean; granddaughter, Kelly Basheer Garrett (Arthur) of Chevy Chase, Md.; great-grandchildren, Sellers, Parker and Cooper; and stepdaughter, Shirley Cox-Schroeder (Robert) of Ellsworth, Kansas. She was born on July 14, 1923 in Syringa to C. Garland Mercer and Frances Parker Mercer. She graduated in the Class of 1940 at Syringa High School and attended Mary Washington College and Richmond Professional Institute where she studied art and design.
In 1943, Marjorie married Raymond Grayson Cox of Richmond where they managed the family businesses until his death in 1964 at the age of 41. In 1985 she married Richard Richardson Cox and, after retirement in 1996, they made their home in Deltaville and Delray Beach, Florida. Marjorie’s love of family and the happiness she enjoyed upon returning to her beloved Middlesex made her final years rewarding for her and all those she knew. A service of remembrance will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, February 14, at Harmony Grove Baptist Church, Topping. The service and graveside service will be preceded by visitation at 10:30 a.m. Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be given to Harmony Grove Baptist Church, P.O.
