Mary Foster Brooks died peacefully at age 100 at the Gloucester House on October 23, 2019.
She was born on December 2, 1918, in Blakes, Virginia, to parents Henry and Ollie Foster.
Preceding her in death were her parents, brother Wilbert Foster, husband Oren Brooks and grandson Brandon Dyche. Mary and Oren were married for 61 years before his death in 2004.
Survivors include daughters Nancy Brooks Katsuki (Paul) and Jeanne Brooks Dyche (Jim); five grandchildren: Wendy Katsuki Glasco (Anthony), Genji Katsuki (Shelley), Glenn Katsuki (Monique), Bradley Dyche and Tyler Dyche; and four great-grandsons: Lane Brooks Glasco, John Cole Glasco, Blaise Edward Katsuki, and Samuel James Katsuki.
Mary was an active member of Mathews Chapel United Methodist Church and a member of the Myrtle Mathews Sunday School Class. For over 50 years, she was a member of Eastern Star, Oriental Chapter No.30. A lifelong resident of Mathews County before moving to the Gloucester House, Mary graduated from Cobbs Creek High School in 1936 and The Pan-American Business School in Richmond, after which she worked for several years in Gloucester as a legal secretary. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother (“Nana”). Her greatest joy was her family.
A funeral service at Mathews Chapel UMC, 4185 Buckley Hall Road, Cobbs Creek, VA, will be held at 2:30 PM Saturday, October 26, 2019, followed by burial in the Haynes Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
The family would like to thank the staffs of the Sweet Memories unit of Gloucester House for their compassionate care of Mary for the past seven years and especially At Home Care Hospice for the last week of her life.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Mathews Chapel UMC, P.O. Box 125, Cobbs Creek, VA 23035, or a charity of your choice. Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster-Faulkner Chapel, Mathews, VA is assisting the family with the arrangements.
