Mary Daphne Britt Howell, widow of Alfred C. Howell, Sr., went to be with her Lord on Friday, June 22, 2012. Daphne was born on October 29, 1928 in Bladen County, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her sisters Irma Estelle Wimberly, Sybil Britt Burgess, brother Marion Russell Britt and is survived by her brother John Graden Britt Sr., her children Alfred C. Howell (Debbie), Jan H. Creekmore (Walter), Joey L. Howell (Cindy) and Clay K. Howell (Sharon), many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Known for her humble and compassionate manner, Daphne exemplified her love of family and faith. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM, Tuesday, June 26 at Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Saluda, VA. Graveside services will be held in historic St. Luke’s Memorial Park Cemetery in Smithfield, VA on Wednesday, June 27 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Riverside Walter Reed Hospital, Make A Difference Fund, 7519 Hospital Drive, PO Box 1130, Gloucester, VA 23061 to show gratitude for the exceptional care and kindness provided by the doctors and nurses or to Forest Chapel United Methodist Church, PO Box 425, Saluda, VA 23149.
