Mary E. Plummer, age 94, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 in Gloucester, Virginia. She was born in New York City on March 27, 1920 to James P. Birch and Mary McCaffrey Birch. She served in the U.S. Navy for 6 years (1943-1949) as a WAVE Officer. She was a teacher in private and parochial education for 15 years until retirement. She was a faithful member of the Church of Francis de Sales and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and worked diligently with Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society, Hands Across Mathews and Meals On Wheels.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Plummer, brother Joseph Birch, and sister Catherine Vistica. Mary was survived by her son, John T. Plummer (Sandra), daughter, Susan Veremakis (Dean), five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Monday, March 16, 2015 from 12:30-2:00 p.m. in the Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews, Virginia with funeral services to immediately follow in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be in Windsor Gardens Cemetery, Dutton, Virginia.
