Maurice Drouin

December 31, 1969 — December 20, 2015

Maurice L. Drouin, age 68, of Gloucester passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2015 after fighting a courageous 5 year battle with cancer.  He not only fought one cancer but was diagnosed three separate times with three different types of cancer.  During this long hard journey he touched many lives.  Many, we may not even be aware of.  One might assume that visiting someone who was diagnosed with cancer calls for a solemn atmosphere with assumptions one will be sad and down.  Not Maurice.  People who came to uplift him instead left themselves uplifted.  Even at the dreaded doctor’s visits, there were no sad faces.  He would walk in with his trade mark smile instantly causing others to return the same.  On his way out he would leave the staff and doctors with looks of amazement on their faces.  He always had a huge smile on his face.  The kind that is contagious.  The kind that makes you happy just seeing it.  Maurice was a heavy equipment operator most of his life until cancer gave him an early retirement December 2010.  He loved working, arrived early and never missed a day.  He is survived by his wife, Stephanie Drouin; children, Natalie Drouin, Richard Drouin (Rhiannon), and Kristy Dial (William); his mother, Regina Drouin (Lauréat Labrecque); five grandchildren: Ramon, Victoria, Hailie, Zacharie [his “Zachie”], and Jaxson [his little “Jackie”]; 13 brothers and sisters, and many other family members and friends that are far too numerous to list.  All of whom meant a great deal to him. We can attribute his great attitude to many things.  First and foremost was his unwavering faith in the Lord.  Second, as we all would say, is because he’s a Drouin, and Drouin’s are tough! Not to leave out all the support and love he received.  We would like to send a thank you to everyone who kept his spirits boosted during these past five years. A big thank you to all the members of Cornerstone Fellowship Church with an extra special thank you to Pastor Chris and Debbie Morgan, without you both, the Drouin family would never have fared so well. Also, he would want us to give Bernard Farrar a special thank you for the new found loyal friendship you two developed. To those of you whom we may have mistakenly left out but deserve a special thank you as well, you know who you are and we thank you all, from the bottom of our hearts. Maurice was not only a father, a husband, a brother, a son, a friend, he was our miracle.  He and his stories will be forever missed. A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 28th at 3:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Fellowship Church in Cobbs Creek.  In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate it if you would gift them with your time to give a written memory, favorite story, a video recording of you telling your memory, pictures, or other cherished thoughts about Maurice.  This can be mailed to: Memories of Maurice, P.O. Box 683, Ark, VA 23003 or emailed
