Michael Coyne

January 28, 1958 — December 22, 2015

Michael Joseph Coyne passed on to our holy God our Father on the night of Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at 11:28pm with his loving wife by his side at MCV/VCU Critical Care Hospital in Richmond, Virginia, after a 10-month battle with a serious illness. Michael was born in Detroit, Michigan, on January 28, 1958 and was the first child and son of Caroline Leiblang Coyne and Bernard Coyne. He left Detroit at the age of 18 to attend college at the Ohio Institute of Technology, Columbus, Ohio, where he received a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. He went on to work and live on the East Coast and traveled the world working on Navy combat ships, which he loved. Michael and his wife Cheryl met in 2002 and married on December 28, 2007. Their relationship was a fairy tale love story that will continue on in both their souls and spirits. Michael and Cheryl spent 9 years in Manassas after which he retired on April 12, 2013 after a long career with Lockheed Martin as a senior field engineer, and enjoyed the remainder of his life with his loving wife, family, and grandchildren in the little town of Urbanna. Michael was preceded in death by his father, Bernard Coyne, and is survived by his wife, Cheryl Jacques Coyne; his mother, Caroline Leiblang Coyne; brother, Timmothy Coyne; sisters, Cathy Clark, Kelly Martines (Nick), Penny Coyne and Joan Pipitone (Chris); 2 stepsons, Stephen Hunley (Brandi), and Eric Hunley (Emily); 2 amazing grandchildren which he idolized, Brooklyn Grace Hunley and Maddox Dean Hunley; mother in law, Carole McPherson of Urbanna; nieces, nephews and cousins. Michael was loved by so many people and will be sadly missed forever, but the Michael Coyne methods, random stories and shenanigan’s memories will put big smiles on their faces and huge laughs in their bellies for many years to come. Memorial services will be held 1p.m., Saturday, February 13, 2016 at the home of Michael and Cheryl. The family wishes to send a heartfelt thanks to the MCV/VCU medical team, doctors, nurses and researchers for their excellent care, and for the countless prayers and comforting support given to them by family and friends during their difficult 5 week stay at the hospital. A message from his loving wife: “I’ve never known a more devoted husband than Michael Coyne. The day he married me, he promised to put me first and he always held me high upon a pedestal. Like it says in the Bible, ‘Man shall leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife; and they shall be one flesh.’ (Genesis 2:24). We were the picture of marital intimacy, the act of love that is never to involve anyone else. I was devoted to him and respected his wishes. When the day comes, Michael will be waiting for me at the Golden Gate for all eternity. I love you, BIG DADDY.” You may share memories and send condolences to chercoyne58@gmail.com.
