Michael B. Hartenbach, age 62, passed away on June 3, 2019 after a long battle with kidney disease. He was born on July 14, 1956 in Meadville, Pennsylvania. He was the son of the late Robert A. and Christina E. Hartenbach.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years Julie; 3 children: Billy (Rachel) Hartenbach, Lindsay (Barry) Mortland, and Michael Joe (Ashton) Hartenbach; two granddaughters, Emily Taylor, and Lily Hartenbach; two sisters, Christina (Ron) Dzeskewicz, and RuthAnn Hartenbach, and several nieces and nephews.
Mike graduated from Cambridge Springs High School, Cambridge Springs, Pennsylvania in 1974. He moved to Virginia in 1979 when he started Hartenbach, Inc. - a contracting and excavating business. It is through this business that he acquired many lifelong friends. Mike never met a stranger and was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone that needed it.
Mike's first love was farming and John Deere tractors. “You can take the farmer out of the country – but you can never take the farmer out of the man!”
Mike was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Millers Tavern where he was part of a loving church family. Mike also acquired many loving nurses and doctors through dialysis that made his struggle tolerable. The family will be forever grateful for the many acts of kindness and compassion shown by these medical heroes.
A memorial service will be held in Mike's honor at 2 pm on June 23, 2019 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 5428 Richmond Road, Tappahannock, VA 22560. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Tappahannock Free Clinic, 317 Duke Street, Tappahannock, VA 22560.
