Nellie Quate Jones, of Remlik, died at the age of 85 on Saturday, February 8, 2014, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born on December 25, 1928, to the late Charles Russell Quate and Mary Francis Quate. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Waverly Jones; her sisters, Margaret Riddell and Orneida Teachey; and brothers Kenneth and Charles Quate. She attended Church of St. Therese in Gloucester for many years. She was raised in Richmond and attended Thomas Jefferson High School, where she excelled in all sports. She went on after high school to work for the federal government in Washington, D.C. Nell would soon meet her husband, Floyd, at the Urbanna Skating Rink, soon after which they married and spent the rest of their lives together in Remlik. Living on the water, she developed a great love for fishing, crabbing and anything to do with the water. Nell was the secretary and treasurer, later CEO of her husband’s business, Floyd W. Jones Builders, Inc. She also had a great love for sports, especially the New York Yankees, often traveling with family and friends to attend baseball games. After retirement, Nell and Floyd loved to travel and spend time with their family and friends, especially hosting a crab dinner every weekend during the summer months at their home. Nell is survived by her daughter, Neida Bull and her husband Howard; her grandson Kevin Bull and his wife Amy; granddaughter Tina Bull; great-grandchildren, Maggie and Mason Waverly Bull, Jake Hudgins, Matthew and Thomas Wilson; great-great-grandson, Carter Floyd Hudgins; brothers, Pat Quate, Dickie Quate and Tommy Quate; and special sister-in-law Betty Lee Quate. Family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 on Tuesday morning at Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Saluda, with the funeral service following at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in Remlik Memorial Gardens, Remlik.
