Newton Wood “Mike” French, Jr., 89, of Hartfield, VA., passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, April 16, 2014. Mr. French was a veteran of WW II and a Bronze Star recipient. He was employed by Revere Gas and retired from the Chesapeake Corporation in West Point. He was a member of Lower United Methodist Church. Mr. French was predeceased by his beloved wife, Laura Weston French; his parents Newton Wood and Elsie Hurley French; his sisters Nellie, Mary, Myrtle, Pauline, and Sarah, and brothers Eugene, Wiloughby and Henry. He is survived by his daughters Constance Richardson (Sonny), Patricia Kuchyt (Wally), and Suzanne Lewis (Steve); sisters Agnes Kahn and Virginia Hudgins; grandchildren Laura Waite, Matthew Richardson, Katherine Riddle, and Patrick Kuchyt: great-grandchildren Charlotte Waite and Molly Riddle. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 18, at Lower United Methodist Church, Hartfield, Virginia. Family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service at the church.
