Norman Witwer

October 3, 1919 — February 12, 2017

Norman G. Witwer, age 97, devoted husband and wonderful father of 3, grandfather of 7, and great-grandfather of 5, passed on to be with our Lord on February 12, 2017. Born October 4, 1919, Norman lived with his fine parents, Edith and Russell Witwer and brother, Herbert, in Gettysburg, Ohio, where he graduated from Gettysburg High School. He continued his education and graduated from Miami Jacobs Business College, Dayton, OH in accounting and married his wonderful wife Helen in 1942. He then served his country in the army and was a proud and distinguished veteran of World War II. After returning from the war he worked 10 years as an office manager for Dayton Reliable Motors and worked 25 years until his retirement as an accountant at the EF McDonald Company in Dayton , OH. Norman was a golf enthusiast and actually shot his age when he was 83 and had 3 hole-in-ones in his lifetime. He was active at Shiloh Church, UCC where he served as a Deacon and was a life member of the Masonic Lodge of the Gettysburg, OH Chapter. He and his wife Helen enjoyed travel, square dancing, bridge and family gatherings; always putting family first. Norman is preceded in death by his wife Helen, married for 69 years and parents Edith and Russell Witwer and his brother Herbert Witwer. Norm is survived by their three children; Stephen (Margaret) of Fishers, IN, Douglas (Linda) of Dublin, OH, Susan Thomas (Daniel) of North, VA. Seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren: Stephanie and Matthew Witwer, Natalie (Matt) Metzler (Adelaide, Weston and Elle great grandchildren and Nicholas Witwer, Kyle and Colin Thomas, and Rebecca (Adam) Wolter (Logan and Casey, great grandchildren). A memorial service is planned to be later this year with a private family burial in May. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory of Norm to the Shiloh Church, UCC Missions Fund, at 5300 Philadelphia Drive, Dayton, OH 45415 or Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Avenue, Dayton, OH 45420.
