Captain Paul J. Smith, Jr. , U.S. Navy (Ret) of Mathews, Virginia, born April 15, 1930 passed away on July 11, 2014. A graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, in New York, Captain Smith served for twenty-seven years in the Navy and for twenty-four years in the maritime industry, where he held a U. S. Coast Guard Unlimited Master's License.
Captain Smith is survived by his children, Valerie, Craig, and Keith.
The Mass of the Resurrection was held on July 15th. at the Church of Francis de Sales in Mathews, Virginia. Burial will be with Full Military Honors at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia later this summer. The family requests donations in memory of our father to be made to the Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 723, Mathews, Virginia 23109.
