Phyllis Huckins Haughton, born September 12, 1922, was called home to be with her Saviour, Jesus Christ, on May 10, 2015. Phyllis was born in Alexandria, VA and grew up in Warwick County, now Newport News, VA. She graduated from Morrison High School and received her nurses training at Riverside Hospital School of Nursing. She was employed for over 25 years at Doctors Clinic in Newport News, VA. In 1942 she married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Caxton O. Haughton. After raising three children she became an amateur genealogist and writer, having two books published and writing a column in the Middlesex paper, The Southside Sentinel, titled In Green Pastures. She taught Sunday school her entire adult life, from small children to senior citizens, and was most proud to have been a founding member of North Riverside Baptist Church in Newport News. Upon retirement she moved with her husband to Middlesex County and enjoyed the slower pace and friendliness of the country life, becoming a member of Harmony Grove Baptist Church. Phyllis is survived by three children, Gail O’Neal and husband Pete, Caxton O. Haughton, Jr. and wife Sylvia, and Sally White and husband Rolfe, six grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of Heron Cove for their excellent, loving care of Phyllis during her stay there. The family will receive friends at Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Saluda, on Friday, May 15 from 6:30 to 8:00pm. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 16, at 1:00pm at Peninsula Memorial Park in Newport News, VA. Memorial contributions may be made to Harmony Grove Baptist Church, P.O.
