Rachel C. Morgan, 79, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2018 surrounded by family. Rachel was born October 3, 1938 in Mathews, Va., to the late Thomas Vaden and Dorothy Estes Crewe. She graduated from Mathews High School. The widow of the late James R. Morgan, they spent the majority of their lives raising their children in Mobjack. She was also predeceased in death by her siblings Cecil, Weldon, Beatrice, Nancy, Randy and Wayne.
Rachel was a member of Oak Grove Christian Church in Mobjack and was the last deaconess of the congregation until its closure in 2003. She attended Macedonia Baptist Church in Foster in later years and was a caregiver to many Mathews and Gloucester residents. She was a member of the Mathews Lions Club and for many years enjoyed bowling and traveling. She also knitted afghans for every member of her family.
Rachel is survived by her two children, a daughter, Robin M. Sadler (Gary) of Mathews, and a son, James Russell "Rusty" Morgan Jr. (Theresa), also of Mathews; seven grandchildren, J. Scott Sadler of Arlington, Ashley S. Adams (Taylor) of Chesapeake, Miranda Morgan of Kenosha, Wisconsin, Jack Morgan of Williamsburg, and Brittany, Adam and Kelsey Brinson of Williamsburg; great-grandson, Grayson Adams of Chesapeake; two sisters, Dale Kellum (Steve) and Pam Watkins (Lou), all of Gloucester Point. She is also survived by a special niece, Missy Marx, of Middlesex, along with several other nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster-Faulkner Chapel, Mathews. A funeral service conducted by the Rev. Michael Gregory will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 10, in the funeral home chapel with entombment to follow at Windsor Gardens Cemetery & Mausoleum in Dutton.
