Randolph (“Randy”) Lee Simmons, age 71, Deltaville, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, October 23rd, 2021 after a brief battle with cancer.
Randy, aka “Dog” or “Papa Dog” to friends & family, was a beloved member of his community in Deltaville, Virginia where he lived on Jackson Creek on the Piankatank River.
Randy graduated from Douglas Freeman High School in Richmond, Virginia in 1967. He served in the Army Reserves, after which time he worked in the real estate business, initially with his late father Tom Simmons of Simmons Realty, later as a real estate agent with Coldwell Banker Vaughan & Company, and retired as a real estate developer.
Randy enjoyed his time out on the water fishing and boating, he was an avid golfer, active member of the Deltaville Maritime Museum, and a board member of the Harbor House Association.
Randy is survived by his wife of 28 years, Cindy Simmons; his son, Donny Simmons (Mary); son, Andy Simmons (Cyndi); stepson, Dr. Chris Derby (Stephanie); and stepdaughter, Beth Cox (Bill); his brother, Greg Simmons (Kathy); and brother, William T. Simmons (Jo Ellen); eleven grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Randy is also survived by his faithful and loving companion, Molly, his black lab, who was always happy to go for a golf cart ride with her daddy.
A celebration of life will be held at a future date. Donations may be made in Randy’s name to the Deltaville Maritime Museum or the Middlesex County Volunteer Rescue Squad.
