Raymond Mills

December 31, 1969 — August 20, 2017

Raymond J. Mills Jr., 83, of Cobbs Creek, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2017. He was born and raised in Virginia Beach, and was in the Coast Guard; serving in the Korean Conflict. After a career with General Electric’s Industrial Department in Portsmouth, he finished his work life with Harris Cabinets in Hayes, Virginia. He enjoyed calling Mathews his home since 1976 and after retiring, he continued his love for motorcycles, traveling, working in the yard and in his garage. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Stephenson Mills of Mathews, and his parents Raymond J. Mills Sr., and Mary Ellen Hare Mills, both of Virginia Beach. He was a devoted husband to Helen, and the best Dad EVER, to their daughter Carter. He is survived by his daughter and best friend, H. Carter Mills Frazer; a wonderful and dedicated son-in-law, David L. Frazer, and Grandcat Missy. We would like to thank Pam and Gina with Riverside Hospice; Julia with Riverside Home Health for her care; and Pastor Alvin Hill, for a friendly, soulful tune on the harmonica and prayer when needed. Also thanks to Jason and Kristin Powell, who have been wonderful neighbors lending a hand with things at the house. He fought a brave and long battle always with a smile on his face and God in his heart. He not only was loved, but will be loved and missed for all the rest of our days. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home, Saluda, Virginia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Officiating will be Reverend Stuart Wood, and Reverend Alvin Hill. Interment will be held at H.C. Smither Memorial Cemetery, Mathews, Virginia.
