After graduating from The Medical College of Virginia School of Pharmacy, he was drafted into The Army and stationed in Germany during the Korean War where he developed his love of travel and history. Having never met a stranger and always willing for adventure, he experienced the world and later captivated us all with his many stories. As he always planned, he returned to his home on the river as a partner in the family business, Marshall’s Drugstore and immersed himself in his beloved community. Richard was an active member and past Master of Urbanna Lodge #83 AF&AM, a former member of The Central Middlesex Volunteer Rescue Squad, and looked forward with great anticipation to work with The Shriners every year ensuring a successful and enjoyable Oyster Festival. He was an active member of The Urbanna United Methodist Church where for years he blessed many as a Sunday school teacher instilling his unrelenting faith in The Lord. Richard taught us the importance of love and family, to help those in need and to live by the grace of God. He lived every day putting the needs of others before his own, “For it is in giving that we receive” Francis of Assisi. And, he has left us to smile as we remember him waving as he rode through town on his scooter or greeted us from across the pharmacy counter. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 14 at Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home from 6-8p.m. A Masonic service will be held at 7p.m. Funeral services will be held at The Urbanna United Methodist Church Wednesday, April 15 at 11a.m. Burial will follow in Middlesex Memorial Cemetery, Urbanna.
