Richard Davis Owens, 64, of Mathews entered eternal rest and peace surrounded by family at his home place in Mathews on Tuesday, April 2, 2013.
After high school, he served in the Air National Guard and then pursued a long and successful career in the insurance business until his retirement in 2007. Richard loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, 4-wheeling and playing golf. He was also an avid Redskins fan.
His love and compassion for his family and friends was felt by them throughout his life.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Hartley and Mabel Owens; a brother, James Robert Owens; and grandparents, Will and May Owens and Wilbur and Lucille Sears.
He is survived by his loving wife, Roberta "Robin" Owens; his daughters, Tracy Brubaker (Karl), Melanie Hall (Jamie) and Hope Owens; his grandchildren, Chelsea, Alyssa, Alayna, Beth, Caleb, Cassie and Ethan; his favorite sister, Dianne Hudgins (Kennie); his brothers, David Owens (Wendy), Keith Owens (Kathy), Kent Owens (Paula), and Gene Sears (Pauline); his extended family, Steven Emerson, Tennille Emerson, Michelle Emerson, Jimmy Yarrington, Alex, Mikie, Cameron, Leah, Gage, Emmalee, Alley and Amiah; along with nephews, Chris, Matt, Kyle, Zach and Mac; nieces. Amy, Brittany, Morgan and Madison; and great-nieces, Toni and Nicki; his dearest friends, Harry and Glenda McFarland, Ricky Hudgins, Henry Burroughs, Charlie Congdon and Carl Gammon; along with his loving cousin and caregiver, Mary Ruth Armistead. The family would like to express their appreciation to the hospice nurses Pat, Wendy and Hope.
Funeral services were held in the Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home chapel in Mathews with burial in St. Paul Annex Cemetery, Susan.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Middlesex Volunteer Fire and Rescue or a charity of one's choice.
