Richard Sale

March 23, 1935 — December 19, 2015

Richard Tiffy Sale III

He loved music, all kinds of music, but a brass band was the best. He loved sports, booming out advice and criticism, vigorously participating from his chair. He was a natural athlete, good but untrained, loved bird hunting and being in the woods.

Born in Richmond, Virginia on 24 March, 1935 to Edna Herndon and Richard Tiffy Sale, Jr., he graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School, was a cadet and captain of I Company. In 1957, he graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, married Ann Perkins with whom he had three sons, Richard, Keith and Glenn and one daughter, Jean Ann (Santora). In 1970, he earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Colorado.

He worked for 33 years in research and development support at Fort Belvoir, was appointed to the Senior Executive Service and always felt those who worked with and for him were the finest, most loyal of compatriots. He enjoyed his career, his year at the Industrial College and the two years he served as a Science Advisor in Hawaii. The meritious awards he received as Director of the Logistics Equipment Directorate were earned, in his mind, by his co-workers.

His home on Gwynn's Island and his ten grandchildren filled the last twenty years of his life with joy and contentment. No services are planned at this time.
