Richard William Simon

Richard (“Captain Dick”) William Simon of Urbanna, Virginia, passed peacefully on Monday, April 28, 2025. Dick was surrounded by his loving wife of 37 years, Linda Kay Simon, and his children, Teresa (Eric), Mike (Tammy), John (Tetyana), Darin (Anne) and Todd (Odette). Dick is survived by his brother Walter (Pam), and was blessed with 17 grandchildren, and 23 great grandchildren.

Dick was born in The Bronx, New York to Richard and Dorothy Simon. He proudly served in the United States Navy as a Fire Control Technician and retired after 20 years of service to his country. He later found his passion as a Tugboat Captain and Harbor Pilot, docking over 8,000 military and commercial ships and submarines during his successful career, both in Hampton Roads, Virginia and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

Dick married his beloved Linda in 1987, and together they shared a life filled with love, laughter and family. They built their family home in Urbanna, VA, and enjoyed boating and the company of their many friends.

He was known for his intelligence, incredible wit and his many stories. He had broad interests including model railroading, classical music, gun collecting, American history, pedigree dog showing, Jeopardy, boating, poker, fishing, baseball and politics.

Dick will be missed by all whose lives he touched.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the Riverside-Walter Reed Hospital and Riverside Select Specialty Hospital for the compassionate care they provided to Dick.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 14 from 5:00-7:00pm at Bristow-Faulkner Chapel, 15 C F Edwards Lane, Saluda, VA 23149.

A Full Military Honors Service will be held on Thursday, May 15 at 11:00am at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Road, Suffolk, Virginia 23534, to honor Dick’s proud service to the United States Navy.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Faulkner Funeral Homes, Bristow-Faulkner Chapel, Saluda, is assisting the family.
