Dr. Robert Carter Kluge (Bob), passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at Westminster Canterbury in Richmond, VA at age 92. He was born April 30, 1925 in Portsmouth, VA to the late Frank and Margaret Kluge. He was married to the late Mary Belle Taylor for 56 years. He was a SeaBee in the U.S. Navy during WWII and a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. After graduation from the Medical College of Virginia, he completed his residency in Pediatric Medicine at the U.S. Navy Hospital in Chelsea, MA. In 1959, he opened his pediatric practice in Staunton, VA, where he cared for many children until his retirement in 1994. He cared deeply for his patients and their families, as well as the pediatric nurses at Kings Daughter Hospital. Upon his retirement, he and his wife moved to Urbanna, VA where they were members of Christ Church Parish. He was an active member of Kiwanis Club of Middlesex and loved boating and fishing on the “Rivah” with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed his Friday night dinner outings with close friends and neighbors. Bob was a true “gentleman” who was always kind and caring to everyone he met. He loved reading, traveling, and attending historical seminars and outings. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Belle. Bob is survived by his sons, Robert Kluge (Rosemary), Thomas (Sharon), and Steven (Betsy); daughter, Amy K. Lesemann (Bill); nine grandchildren, Matthew Kluge, Jessie Kluge, Brett Kluge, Lauren Kluge, Elizabeth Kluge, Kevin Kluge, Laura Kluge, Ryan Kluge, and Andrew Lesemann; and two brothers, Frank and Ray (Mary Margaret). A memorial service will be held at Christ Church Parish Episcopal in Christchurch, VA on Friday, November 17th at 2:00p.m., followed by interment in the church cemetery. Visitation with family will follow the service in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: Central Middlesex Vol. Rescue Squad, P.O.
